Vernell Haynes, a true pillar of the Baton Rouge community, lived a life brimming with service and dedication. Armed with a B.S. and Masters in education from Southern University A&M, he embraced both scholarship and civic duty. For over two decades, his unwavering principles guided him as a Justice of the Peace, ensuring fairness and justice for all. Beyond the courtroom walls, Vernell was a stalwart member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, fostering brotherhood and uplift within his community. His commitment extended further, having proudly served in the Army, and throughout his life, he remained a staunch advocate for veterans’ rights.
Vernell’s legacy of giving lives on through his daughter, Ebony, and son-in-law, Gerald McAfee, a fellow veteran forged in the crucible of the United States Air Force. Inheritors of his spirit, they strive to keep his flame burning brightly. Driven by unwavering love and respect, they seek to honor his memory by continuing his passion for community service, ensuring his impact ripples ever outward, touching countless lives. In their hearts, Vernell’s legacy is not just a memory, but a vibrant torch, guiding them onward as they navigate the path of service and giving back.
